“stretch zone” vs “eustress”
I have read in
http://tinyurl. com/5u4r2c that
“Ms. Ryan and Ms. Markova have found what they call three zones of existence: comfort, stretch and stress. Comfort is the realm of existing habit. Stress occurs when a challenge is so far beyond current experience as to be overwhelming. It’s that stretch zone in the middle – activities that feel a bit awkward and unfamiliar – where true change occurs.”
What they call “stretch” I used to call “stimulation”. I am anyway very happy they do not call it “eustress”.
there is no “good” stress
In my perception there is no such thing as “good” stress: what has been called “eustress” is actually just a normal stimulus for me. Driving in a totally unknown city for the first time may be stimulating or stressful – depending on your attitude, disposition – and of course also on the other drivers: in Paris I have always perceived them as aggressive (driving there was stressful for me), in Brussels always as friendly (driving there was stimulating).
