Cancer Patient’s Epicurean Time Management
Time is a non-renewable resource, especially when you are diagnosed with cancer:-) It is therefore important to manage the dwindling supply as wisely as possible.
The first step I used to recommend to my trainees and coaches was to re-define their priorities.
I have started to re-define my priorities so I can schedule the remaining time more wisely, i.e. more congruently with my values. There are schedulable elements I cannot shorten:
- 5-7 working hours 5 days a week to contribute to our living and increasing health care costs
- time for eating, sleeping, hygiene, health-care
The rest of the time will be scheduled in line with the fundamental Epicurean criteria of what is necessary for my happiness that does not harm anybody.
I must admit that I do not run into the goal conflict some of my coaches had to struggle with: prioritizing their own personal pleasurable activities versus their duties towards their family. In my case these goals just happen to coincide: it gives me personal pleasure and it makes me happy to spend time with and for my family.
Therefore it is easy for me to set up my priority list:
- needs of my family
- talks and walks with my wife and my children
- homeschooling my children
- cooking for my family
- read the books and see the movies I like and discuss them with my family
- needs of my friends
- share my experience and thoughts with them
- keep in touch with them and let them know how important it is for me to have them around
I write far less personal emails to my friends but they can benefit from my experiences by subscribing to my blog :
You can subscribe to my blog if you click in the top right corner of the site http://stress-freedom.net/ either on the link FEEDS BY EMAIL if you want to become an email every time I post or on the link, or RSS FEEDS if you want to read my new postings in your web-based news readerI will cut out entirely (at least for the next few years) personal life coaching and corporate training but I might still finish the design and then run my conflict prevention and management workshop for homeschooled teenagers, sharing with them my AGORA™ steps for conflict prevention and management.
I will postpone (maybe for ever?)
- publishing my conflict prevention and management workshop for homeschooled teenagers, including my AGORA™ steps for conflict prevention and management
- writing and publishing my next book, working title “ECOLOG – Epicurean Conduct Of Life Orientation Guidance”
- printing and distribution of the printed version of my ebook “From Pain to Pleasure: The Proven Pathway to Happiness” http://stressfreedomguide.com/
Today I plan to prepare breakfast for my family, take a walk with them in the snow discussing whatever topic comes up including life and death cycles in nature, work on a video-project with my 12-year old son. I am sure my friends will appreciate the result which I will upload on youtube. I can only reveal that it will have to do with FREEDOMfight and the star will be a member of our family;-)
