an unwittingly Epicurean Saint
I have come across four lines attributed to Saint Theresa of Avila (1515–1582), which might have been written by any Epicurean as well:
Let nothing disturb thee, nothing affright thee; All things are passing; God never changeth;
No matter how the totalitarian Church tried to stifle the strong Epicurean current it just popped its head again and again even within the Church, e.g. in the ideas propagated by Giordano Bruno and Pierre Gassendi.
